After years of struggling to lose her "mommy tummy", deal with digestive issues and constant belly bloat, Pasha realized that she has DIASTASIS. Typically from pregnancy, abdominal separation or diastasis recti, occurs when the abdominal muscles separate the connective tissue that joins them. The "mommy tummy" or protuding belly is not fat, but the organs against the thin connective tissue. The lose the tummy, it is necessary to close this separation. To do so, one must wear a splint and perform simple abdominal exercises that decrease the diastasis and result in a flatter and firmer belly. Often, it is necessary to decrease the amount of exercise one does and to avoid certain exercises all together. Once the diastasis is healed, there is relief from back pain, digestive issues and constipation as well as a the protruding belly. For these reasons, Pasha will be modifying her own movements and will be providing support and advice to those in her class with the diastasis. For more information, please contact Pasha at 476-2476 and make an appointment to talk about your specific issues.

Tai chi is sometimes referred to as "moving meditation" because its practitioners move their bodies slowly, gently and with awareness, while breathing deeply.  People practice tai chi for many health and wellness reasons, including improvement of coordination, balance and flexibility.  It offers the benefits associated with low-impact exercise and cardiovascular fitness, helps to improve sleep, and can ease pain and stiffness associated with various problems such as osteoarthritis.
